Here is a video with a few tips about getting a drone.
Drone is the DJI Mini 3. As long as it is working properly the drone seems to be very stable in flight and the camera is very stable and it hovers very well. However, they can malfunction.
The original drone did have a few times where it would refuse to land and I couldn’t figure out how to get it down apart from running into something. I’m not quite sure why it did that but one time I was trying to land inside the barn on a table so maybe it didn’t like that it was shady in there or perhaps it was refusing due to lack of GPS signal under the roof? Another time it refused to land after I took off without removing the camera cover. Maybe the camera cover impaired the sensors but I wish it would refuse to take off in that case instead of letting me take off but refusing to land. A final time I couldn’t get it to land but I had more time so I flew around and it did let me land in another location. After the crash, it has gone blind and been sent in for repair.
The New drone, NEW PURCHASE with the Insurance Plan this time. Arrived Thursday June 20, 2024 Had to charge batteries which takes a few hours. Then you have to be connected to internet so you can initialize and log in and activate and update firmware and wait for it all to reboot. Then make sure you still have enough battery power before going out to try to fly it. After all that I was rather disappointed to find that the brand new Drone will make you seasick to watch the video.
A few tips about drones in general. First, don’t get the cheapest drones available, some of them don’t even have cameras and most of them won’t hover in one place at all, they will always be immediately drifting and require constant control to keep them from drifting into things. Second, make sure the drone can take an sd card to capture the video to, if it is having to send the video to your phone in order to capture the video, the quality is going to be poor no matter how good the camera on the drone is. Tried one of those once and I might have done better video by taking a video on my phone and throwing the phone in the air. Third, get a drone with an actual remote. You could still use your phone to see the video while flying but you want a remote that has a better connection with the drone since the phone wifi to the drone usually has a far more limited range and you could loose connection with the drone while it is flying.
